Screw .jar
Java Archive files are really screwy. Most of the time you just end up with and error in Command Prompt, which is bad.

Is that from running minecraft.jar manually or you launching the client?

You are trying to run minecraft.jar. Which you don't need to do. If you need to get into it, open with Winrar.
