Okay, I'm pretty upset about this. Yesterday I was playing for several hours on this world that I made a HUGE mob killing machine. I saved multiple times and was able to get to it from the menu. Now after having turned my laptop off I can't seem to access my saved game file on the Menu. I spent more than 8 hours making it near perfect. However I have found the save in the .minecraft folder but somehow it's not registering on the official single player menu! What's wrong and how can I get my save back since it's in the .minecraft folder and seems fully functional?

Do you? Because I just lost a whole file due to some stupid malfunction, possibly a bug that has ruined my most prized possession. It's happened more than once too, I also am using Ubuntu, Linux if that's an issue. I'd really like to be able to get it back, if you know I can't let me know.
