Minecraft Servers

Me and my friend conbuck made a minecraft alpha server but 2 things happened:
1. We cant get it online
2. I went on today (the day of the beta release) and it says it is outdated.
If you know anyway to fix these problems please post answers.

I don't have the game myself, but logic would say it needs updating. The servers are down right now so it won't update at the moment, just wait some time and it should be back up.
