I love the game minecraft and so do my brothers and my friend. i think its one of the best games ever made and has a lot of potential but needs a lot of work to be done. I have tried to host a server for fun but all i get is more pain and stress. Once you download the stupid server thing, you have to go in and do this and do that, and it takes about 5 hours! and then after that ONLY YOU can play on it. NOBODY else can play on it unless you spend a week of nonstop searching and hunting and learning code to try to fix something. and if i do need help with this, i go to this site for help but there is NOTHING on it!!! and if i do get something on it they tell me i have to forward ports and this site could help me but all i get is a 3 page long explanation on what it is and it just makes things more confusing!!!! SO ALL I NEED IS THEM TO TYPE UP A STEP BY STEP WALKTHROUGH ON HOW TO SET UP A SERVER AND ILL BE HAPPY!!!!! OR AT LEAST MAKE IT LESS COMPLICATED SO I COULD ACTUALLY HAVE FUN INSTEAD OF WASTING MY WHOLE WEEKEND ON TRYING TO FIX IT JUST TO FIND OUT THERE IS MORE WORK TO BE DONE!!!!!! PLEASE DO SOMETHING NOW!!!!!!

Here, I wrote you a complete walkthrough

Here, I wrote you a complete walkthrough to get this working:

1. Start Minecraft server
2. Give your friends your IP address
3. Tell them to join your server
4. Play Minecraft.

Total time required: approx 7 seconds.

Hope this helps.

.

If you're hosting a server it is public.

I think the problem you're running into is probably because you haven't forwarded the port on your router. This is very easy and you're going to have to learn how to do it. It varies slightly depending on what kind of router you have. portforward.com can help, but you are going to actually have to follow some instructions instead of just calling everything stupid and typing in all caps. Think you can handle that, kiddo?

You need to make sure that

You need to make sure that your PC can support running a Public Minecraft server as I'm assuming that you'll be running it all day long.  If you have any less than 2GB of RAM then I would seriously question if your server can even support 4 or more people.

Also, if it takes you a week just to set up your server following the instructions on the minecraft forums then you really shouldn't keep trying.  It's obviously too difficult for you and you're just wasting your time.  There are plenty of SMP servers out there so just find one and tell your friend to join the same one you did.

Oh and by the way, World of Minecraft is NOT Minecraft, if you want Minecraft support head to the Minecraft forums.  People will help you here but I'm quite sure you'll get better help from a much larger community where there are sub-forums for this kind of thing.

PS: Please don't use caps, it doesn't make you seem important or frustrated it makes you seem rude.
