Minecraft on Ubuntu

So I'm trying to run Minecraft on Ubuntu (10.04), I cant even get the program to run, when I try to run it from the terminal i get "unable to access jarfile minecraft_server.jar" I haven't purchased the game, but I have a friend who was going to let me use his login information.

I tried that, all it said was
I tried that, all it said was "Details: Failed to execute child process "/home/XXXXX/Downloads/minecraft_server.jar" (Permission denied)"
the XXXXX is just my actual name, but is minecraft.jar different from minecraft_server.jar?

Download the minecraft.jar
Download the minecraft.jar file from
save it to desktop
right click the file and go to
properties>permissions>allow executing file as program
then go to Open With and click Sun Java 6 Runtime (32bit)
close
double click the file.

Did you download the game,right click on the desktop click"Create Launcher"button and name it minecraft the file(or command)is Minecraft.jar.tell me if this helps :D(it may also be a problem with java.)
