My Client will not open.

Hey I have downloaded and extracted the World of Minecraft client I tried to open the client so I could automatically download the minecraft.jar however so far all i have got is nothing, not even an error message.
Am I doing something wrong in the instillation or do I have to download the .jar file manually and hope it works?

i already downloaded it from here
i had this same problem downloaded it and it opens now but no servers or anything comes up it just shows three blank squares

try download this:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/MinecraftDownload/classic/minecraft.jar
(this is the official download link! I copied it to bookmarks at the time, where you had to download the .jar youself everyday)
put the minecraft.jar in the "lib" folder and then try running the client.
