Need Help With making a classic server

Okay,
So I'm trying to make a minecraft classic server but I have no idea what I'm doing.
I run my start-server.bat file and it says this:
" 'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Press any key to continue..."
Can anybody give me detailed instructions on what to do?
I'm running on a 64 bit windows system btw
