New computer and Low FPS

So I just got my new laptop and minecraft runs at like 6-15 fps even on fast graphics and I can't figure out why (windows is up to date as well as graphics drivers)
Here are my specs:
Intel Core i7 2720QM CPU
8GB 1333MHz Memory
8GB 1333MHz Memory
750GB Hard Drive Storage
NVIDIA GT 555M 2GB GPU
Any suggestions?

Well, run Minecraft and while
Well, run Minecraft and while your playing, check your task manager and see exactly how much is going on and what its doing.

Are you running anythign in the background as that usually causes games to lag. Even if you can't see anything running, there might be programs like anti-virus that will be running in background that you may not know about that takes up alot of the computers RAM/CPU storage.
