I am doing this on Minecraft Classic, this "/zone" command and "/newlvl" doesn't work with the standard client. Where would I go to download these functions?

you have to use McLawl or MCSharp. I prefer MClawl because it had a user interface on computer and mcsharp didnt for me. it might have been tht i was using older version. yea but youtube guide to setup mclawl and it tell you everything

you have to download a custom server. i suggest you start out with McSharp since its you first time and dont know much about these. also its REALLY easy to set up.

in my opinion Fcraft is the best software, the /info <playername> command is SO usefull, it shows how many blocks the player has placed, deleted and cuboided.

well for restricted zones on the same level; you wpuld do /zone add "rank" or "username" without quotes of course. I suggest building whatever boundries first and then doin the commond stated before and click opposite corners.
for multiple levels; /newlvl "name of level" "dimensions" ---etc, 256 256 256)
also if soneobe helps you with portals, please let me know. number 1 priotory for me and cant seem to find help for it.
the portal is the one where you jump in something( like water) and it takes you to another level.
