No Protocol for connecting to my server from the World of Minecraft Client

When I use the World of Minecraft Client to connect to my main server, I get a message saying "An error occurred while loading Minecraft.net server list
no protocol:
*the IP address goes here*
Do you wish to retry or quit?
And no matter how many times I retry, it doesn't work. What's the problem here?
