did you try to change physics?
use /physics 1
the one can be from 0-4
0=off
1=normal
2=advanced
3=hardcore
4=instant
i dont know many exact differences but 3 has explosions from rockets, creepers, and tnt.
4 is basicly 3 but it updates the chunks less often so it reduces lag
