Hello,

I've created my own server and am in need of some help to try and understand a few things, as i am a complete noob :(

number 1, i have a free account. is this going to hurt me when it comes to using some of the admin features on my server?

2, is there an actual client or excecutable file i should be using to play the game? currently, i am playing on the online mode by connecting to other peoples servers.
the jar file I downloaded doesnt seem to do much or even work, and I am wondering if everyone is meant to play in the browser.

3, how do I place lava blocks and water blocks? In the minecraft faq I read to place them individually as rocks (top left in my inventory) after typing /lava or /water. I cannot seem to do anything special other than create and destroy unbreakable blocks.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

My first question is are you

My first question is are you just using the server software off of minecraft.net? (by the sounds of it I believe u are)

Regarding your first question the answer is no it will not effect anything that has to do with classic servers

Regarding your second question the answer is yes there is a client you can use witch allows you to fly and gives you speed hacks alot of people use this but some don't because they can't figure out how to download it...

And finally your 3rd question if your running a server with the software from minecraft.net then I don't believe you can place lava or use any commands unless you were to code them in which isn't really the best option if I were you I would just try downloading the mclawl server software which Already has commands and is rapidly growing (it's a great server software to use) I use it for my server (freebuild stewie [mclawl]).

Hiya Stewie

first off, yes, i am using the browser software from the website to play the game.

also, i downloaded mclawl, but it doesn't seem to be a program specifically for minecraft, and cannot figure out how to use it with minecraft.

any more suggestions would be appreciated

Hey again stew

First off, thanks for helping me.

I managed to install the mysql server without a problem, and got the package.

What I am stuck at now is that when I put the .jar file into the lib folder and click the run.bat to start the server, i get an error in my cmd prompt saying ERROR: failed to load minecraft. also, when i just click on the jar itself, i get an error saying failed to load main class manifest attribute from C://users... etc;

further searching on google is leading me to believe there is a problem with me using 64 bit windows 7, and i think it has something to do with java.

thanks.

(i was a little confused as to exactly what mclawl and mysql were in my last post. didnt know that it actually WAS a part of the server lol... Hooray for progress :D)
