So, I've noticed lately that the PVP server seems to be dying out. Even before the update, there only seemed to ever be 1 or 2 people on it. In order to possibly get more people interested in going to the pvp servers, I was thinking that it might be time for a pvp refresh. I'm ready for a brand new map, new inventories, new leaderboards. Possibly let people keep their fame, just to tell apart the people who have been there a while. Also, with this, I would really like the nether to be added to pvp, to allow people to use potions in their fighting, and also allow people to make their own enderchest to use. (Still no wither boss though). A new map would also bring villages, which as far as i know, there still aren't any of on the current pvp map.

I haven't metioned or asked snow about this yet because I wanted to see what the communities opinion on it was first. I understand that everyone has worked hard for their base and their stuff, but none of that does any good if nobody is ever going to play on the pvp server. 

A couple more changes that I thought could make pvp for more fun for everyone,

1. No safe zone. Instead, have people be invulnerable/can't attack for a certain amount of time when they spawn and respawn. That way they can get far enough away from anyone who is trying to kill them.

2. Smaller map. I know, most people ask for a bigger map. However if their was no central safe zone for people to gather around, a bigger map would make it more impossible to find one another. A small map would force people into each others areas, and make the map more of an actual fighting server, and not one where you can easily find a safe place to hide away.

3. Possibly make it so on your first spawn you appear in a random location? This would be another prevention for kill farming, and would help spread people out on a map with no central area.

4. Make the /clan home command take longer to use. I do like the fact that you can create a clan and ally with your friends. However it's gotten to the point where everybody just has their own clan, for the sole purpose of being able to teleport away from danger within a second. That kinda defeats the purpose of a pvp server. If the command took 10 seconds or so of you standing completly still, and wouldn't let you use it while you were in combat, then people would be forced to stand their ground, or have to avoid the fight completly in the first place.

I know that some if not all of these ideas have been suggested in the past, and obviously been shot down for one reason or another. But now its gotten to the point where the pvp server is so dead all the time that we really need to do something to it to get people interested for a bit or there's not really a point in having it. Please post your opinions on any or all of these things, and if enough of us are for it, the lets make some of these happen!

random spawn, is fine, just needs to spawn people a little further.

People would find the game less fun to play without safe zones. We already get enough people complaining that they STILL get spawn killed.

A NEW smaller map would be nice. Probably the size of the original PvP.

We already have random spawn? Just use the sign. It could be tweaked further though.

/clan home needs to be removed or nerfed in some way, it's been on the Todo but ignored.

 

And my own opinion, World of Minecraft has never been about the PvP so of course it's going to be less popular than our SMP server(s).

Without a safe zone and with actual random spawning, there wouldn't be any way to spawn kill. So no complaints. A lot of people don't bother reading signs too, but I guess that's their fault.

I think most everyone can agree that it's pretty much time for some kind of new map. The current one has so many bases and areas that you can't dig ten blocks down without hitting someones mine or home, unless you go so far away from spawn that it takes you half a day to get back there. Also, nobody has mentioned the nether point. I think adding the nether to pvp would add a whole new aspect to the game. Along with giving people another world to hide their base in.

My opinion on this matter:

1. Yes, keep the safe zone, perhaps make it so players who haven't just died get pushed outside after standing in it for say, 2 minutes or something, this making it harder to keep safe when AFK, which will keep players active and attentive.

2. I second the smaller map idea, it was fine when I played on it, which was when it was the smaller map. Definatly make it a new map, different from the last ones.

3. The problem with random spawning every time you die is that some people just aren't smart enough to use the coords to tell where their base is/was.

4. /clan home shouldn't be removed, but does need to be nerfed, as I, and some other people, suggested ages ago. Someone on the staff list should make that a higher priority!


As for the nether:

I'm against the nether, but perhaps there can be another way to impliment ender chests/potion brewing.
Perhaps there could be a couple of blaze dungeons, instead of spider/skeleton/zombie dungeons underground which would allow for players to get enderchests and create brewing stands. The stronghold should be disabled, meaning there is no point in eye of ender, other then ender chests.


Ultimately, this just sounds like you're just getting lonely, being the only one interested in PvP. Why don't you just play SMP if PvP no longer cuts it for you!

Because SMP gets lonely too. :(. 

I guess what I'm really getting at is trying to make PVP into a real survival server. One that's basically vanilla minecraft, with no rules, and the only plugins are to stop hacking. If everything was enabled, Nether, End, Random spawn, It would give people a World of Minecraft server that is basically the authentic minecraft experience, which most servers these days seems to lack. People could spawn somewhere in the map, and then go play minecraft the way it was meant to be played, mining in the day, and hiding in the night, all the while being constantly wary of all the different threats. Basically the mod-less single player game, but with other people who can attack you. 

For a lot of the players on SMP, the economy and shops have made it not really about survival anymore. When you can buy full diamond stuff, and everything else you need to survive, the challenge of surviving fades. On a pvp server, the challenge would never fade, and all your time online would be spent working to be able to survive the night, or the next creeper attack.

Also, for random spawns, that's what beds were made for. :P. If you play in survival mode by yourself, without cheats or mods, you get dropped in a random location, and are told to survive. The first thing you do is establish a home with a bed. That kind of thinking is what I was thinking we could bring to the pvp server.

I definitely like the idea of nether being enabled. it adds a whole new dimension to the game and gives the little guy a chance against the people with enchanted diamond stuff. The smaller map and random spawn would be great too.
