port forwarding

i have a server for minecraft alpha, and i portforwarded 25565 on my ip in TCP/UDP. but my friend still can't join my server. the port and ip is the same as in the server properties. help someone.

yes i have tried that.
and the error is connection timed out: connect
i even followed the walkthrough at the minecraft official forum.

Have you tried finding you external IP?
Go to www.whatismyip.com and it should tell you your external ip address.
Give your friends this address instead and they should connect.
Don't forget to add :25565
