problem with Minecraft Alpha (Specifically SMP)

Hello all,
Every time I try to join my friends SMP server after the update, it says "Outdated Client!"
Before you all go, "update your client hurr durr" this was already done (I guess I was one of the lucky people who managed to download the update) and it sucks cause I can't get in the server.
I've even tried joining a random public server and the joining server screen would just hang.
Specs:
iMac
OS X 10.5.8
Anything else that might be needed just ask

solution!
The owner of the server need's to download the new server client before any one on the updated version can join. hope this helps^^

Just purchased the game 10 minutes ago, had a fight with the minecraft website to allow me to buy it due to loads of traffic :P
Got it downloaded now, single player works however multiplayer says that, help :(
