When I open the client and enter my info, the server screen comes up. But when I try to type anything on it, it freezes, and I can't exit it. What is this problem?

Minecraft.net has a big server list that has been getting spammed with false listings for quite some time.
Unfortunately due to this, it does take a long time (or freeze on low end machines) to perform a search filter on this.
Try to avoid using the search feature if this is happening to you.
