Hello Community!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but sadly it's of those posts :(
Over the weekend, the majority of Bukkit staff left Bukkit. This is the final nail in the coffin for Bukkit and we can now call it "dead". As Bukkit was hit with a DCMA and Spigot was soon hit with one as well, they can't legally update anymore.
All is not lost, however!
I'd like to bring your attention to Project: Sponge
Sponge is a combination of a new API (likely based off of Spout/Flow’s APIs) implemented on top of Forge, with assistance from other parts of Minecraft’s modding community (Glowstone, Canary, etc.).
It will be both a server and client API, and its target user base is pretty much anyone that wants to mod their game, including server owners. However, we may focus on the server-side portion first.
Sponge is a mass collaboration between most of the major developers in the MC modding community and based on the design document it seems very promising!
What does this mean for World of Minecraft?
Thankfully, World of Minecraft is pretty unaffected from all this! The biggest issue is bringing 1.8 to our network will take a while. We intend to use sponge once it's available.
In the mean time, we are looking into short term "muck around" solutions!
We will keep you updated as more news develops!
Yay now we shall depend on sponges :D and so thissss means there is no set date to when the server will updated? Also what about the servers that have updated what will happen to them m8
No ETA on update
What about other servers? I don't see how they are my concern :P
I know they aren't but how are they updated? Is there other platforms or are they just wizards...
I highly doubt it, the Bukkit API has not been released for 1.8. They could be using 1.8 "Protocol" updates where it just allows 1.8 servers to connect.
Does changing to Sponge mean anything related to build migration or transfer chest access after the new map in 1.8 is updated?
@myncrap Not at all, things should go smoothly, we just could be waiting a while
md_5 has found a way around the takedown, he is giving out batch updates now. So now you are creating the spigot.jar file not him, he gives you the source.
he said he will be releasing a update each night.
Long live Spigot!
told you guys on the server that it was going to be several months before mojang released 1.8 and now that it happened they managed to make it even longer for the servers lol.
Mojang had nothing to do with what has happened.
Why did the Bukkit staff quit?
because idk
Nice to see you again :^)
Mr Snowglobe-
Can you give us a quick update on where we are regarding the update to the new map in 1.8? Any estimated time frame you could give us?
Thanks very much,
myncrap
@myncrap: No solid ETA at this time

i think we have the patience to wait for Sponge i just hope you guys wont forget to have fun in the meantime too its just a game after all.
maybe even start some fun events for the impatient peope on the server to keep them entertained too.
