Problem description: Whenever I try and turn on my computer, it
gets to "Starting Windows" and freezes. The Windows logo glows for a
while then freezes for good. I managed to boot it in Safe Mode, but it
seems to stutter and freeze for a little while, while loading
"CLASSPNP.SYS". It eventually loads though.

I first got this problem popped up when I was playing Far Cry 2. The
video just froze. The background audio in game was still running
smoothly. I held the power button down to shut it off.

Attempted fixes: When I got in (with Safe Mode), I uninstalled
the graphics drivers, thinking it had something to do with that, and it
worked. Sorta. After it restarted, I got into windows without having to
use safe mode. I thought I may have fixed it, so I restarted again to
see, it froze again.

I've opened it up and made sure everything was still connected and made
sure nothing was overheating. It's all good there. I also did all the
options possible under the "Windows Repair" option that comes up when I
load the computer up.

I just loaded it using the last good configuration settings, and I got in, no crashes. Restarted, crashes.

Recent changes: Looking back, this was probably the reason, and
I'm a moron for doing it. After I installed Windows 7 (upgrading from
Vista), it moved my old installation to "Windows.old" on C:/. My hard
drive filled up and I decided I didn't need my old windows
installation. I deleted it, I got a warning saying that some .dll was
important to windows, asking me if I wanted to delete it.

I figured that it was just important to the old installation, and that
I wasn't deleting anything important to my current installation. So I
deleted it. The thing is, I'm about 65% sure that I've restarted my
computer many times before that.
