NINTH LAYER all cobblestone
The lava protects you from all sides and might kill the enemy as they dig through the cobblestone layer. A layer of lava also sits on top of the door, so that when they break the door, the lava will pour in. The obsidian layer prevents them from getting to you before the lava fills in, even if they brought the appropriate tools, and prevents you from being damaged by it. Its only weakness is if they know about the lava: they can fill it with another block, but you have the jump on them when they break through the obsidian.

SMP is multiplayer. And the top is defended the same way as the bottom. You're right about the lava being able to be filled in by other blocks, which I pointed out at the bottom, but you can hear them placing them and see their name, so you get the drop on them when they break through.
You should build it and tell me how it goes ;)

I don't know what SMP means so I am probably missing the entire point of the thing.
Obsidian can be broken through with a diamond axe. Lava can be deafeated with just about any other block. Sand and gravel can fill up a lava pit from top to bottom. I would say that your room is inpenetrable from the bottom but I could get in with a number of ways on each of the other 5 faces. Mobs? They have no hope.
I like your diagram, I am tempted to build it myself. The unwary will be hurt badly. :)
