Hi, I bought minecraft about a week ago (I'm not a pro, please don't baffle me with your tech-talk :P).
I created a new folder this morning in my 'PC Games' folder, called it 'Minecraft' and shoved '.minecraft' inside it. When loading the game, my world is gone. I've looked everywhere for the save file but can't find it. I did create a new world 'world2' as opposed to 'world1' and played it for a bit.. but I want my old world back D:
Is there any way to get it back? I've been through a couple other threads, but nothing seems to work. I've re downloaded it and moved files around but it didn't work.
When I moved it, it moved the whole thing- didn't create any new ones at all. While it was in my Minecraft folder, that was the only copy, it didn't re-create a new one in the %appdata%, I checked.
Thanks for the reply though :)
You sure it didn't? Minecraft runs from %appdata% and not anywhere else...
Well.. I'm not sure. I don't think there was already a file there when I moved it back. I checked my recycle bin and nothing is there. Now in the appdada is the .minecraft that contains my world2 save file and no other file.
try doing force update

So you say you moved the .minecraft folder? When you run the game it creates .minecraft in application data, so moving the .minecraft folder somewhere else would have created a new folder. You just need to find your save data in the old .minecraft and move it to the new one.
