Sends me to single player

Hello everyone I just need to ask a question. I tried to log in using the client yesterday and it came up with an error that read "Can not recieve server list." Then it would send me to single player. I dont know if this is a result to a permanent ban or what but I really need some help I am very bad with all this Java stuff and cant figure it out. Thank you in advance.

P.S. I am on probation and I would like to know if it will affect me in any way since I could not sign in yesterday.

The problem is that Minecraft.net is down. The Client can not load the lists of servers needed to start the client.
Everything should be working in a few days.

To clarify, you can only access survival modes, both online and single player at the moment. Creative is down entirely.

I have tried logging in today again and it still sends me to single player so I dont know if this has to do with me getting banned from a World of Minecraft server which I doubt because I cant build for 3 days (Probation) and I also restarted my computer. I know it isnt my firewall so can it be a problem in your servers? Are they down? I havnt checked up to see if anything is wrong but my probation time is really worrying me because I dont want a permanent ban from something stupid that I couldnt figure out with the client. Please help.
