Every time I set up my server and select it from the server list it always says "FAILED TO CONNECT TO SERVER. IT'S PROBABLY DOWN" I need help! Tell my whats wrong!
but then how are other people supposed to connect to my server? their not gonna come to this place and click that link.
you connect by the link miclee gave you. other people connect with the link in externalurl.txt
The most common reason for this is that you haven't port forwarded correctly (or atall).
Go to http://portforward.com and try there.
k so i got the same prob but in reverse so i can connect but others fail to i can connect through external url and the http://www.minecraft.net/play.jsp?ip=127.0.0.1&port=25565 1 aswell but others cant
That's because they cannot connect with that link, only you. They must connect with the link in externalurl.txt.
i have the same exact problem.
i can get on the server and it says the multiplayer server on the website on my computer as well as others, but when others click on it, it says the server is down but i can get on fine. PLEASE HELP!!!
when i click the link miclee said i get the message :
name not vertified what should i do?
Please try and see if you can connect because I CANT!
Ok Guys Ive Had The Same Problem. My Server Is A Successful Running Server Because Other People Can Log On, But For Some Reason It Wont Let Me. I Tried Updating Java, Replacing The Minecraft.jar File, And Many Other Things, But NOTHING Works. Its Kinda Sad When You Cant Even Log Into Your Own Server And See The Creations Your Guest Are Making. "BTW, I Can Log Into Other Peoples Servers Just Fine, But It Wont Let Me Into My Own."
USE YOUR EYES AND LOOK!!!! god dammit, please so ranting and raving and look at some of the other threads that explain why this is happening! http://www.worldofminecraft.com/pf this explains almost everything. the tutorial i wrote on hosting in through the link so READ IT!
I did this in windows xp, for the same problem:
First, i went into my antivirus firewall (Kaspersky) and made a total exception for both Minecraft.exe and the port 25565.
Then, i went to the firewall settings in the control panel and made an exception there for both the Minecraft.exe and port 25565 (TCP).
Then, i Port Forwarded port 25565, and clicked the enable checkmark... your experience may very, especially if u dont have the same router as i do. It took me two weeks to do 5 minutes of exception work. Have fun minecrafting.
THE SAME THING HAPPENS TO ME AND ITS PISS ANNOYING

You have to set veify_names to false in the properties file.
Once you do that, connect using this link: http://www.minecraft.net/play.jsp?ip=127.0.0.1&port=25565
