Installing textures easily!
How hard is it to make a texture that replaces the current night sky with a more realistic photo of our night sky? example: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e5/Milky_Way_Galaxy_and_a_meteor.jpg
is it something that I could do on my own with a little knowlege, or is it a long and complex process?
that'd be the google search engine at work for "night sky" lol. :P
I guess it depends if the night sky (the 8-bit stars) is a separate texture, or if if it just fades out during the day because the sky is then lighter than the starts, and they don't show up...
Afaik the sky is not a texture. At least there is no image with a night sky or even a single star in the "minecraft.jar". You can change the sun and the moon, but i guess that the night sky is just generated with random white squares. So the only way to change the sky is getting your hands on the source and rewriting the random function which places the stars.
Which is sad because i'd love to play with the rl night sky where i know how to navigate using the stars.
The texture is now in minecraft.jar/misc/particlefield.png. I was looking for it cause i wanted a better sky and thats where it is although i have not found the daytime sky yet if anyone would like to help me with that I would greatly appreciate

As far as I know, there isn't a way to to change the sky per se, but the image that makes up the clouds could theoretically be replaced with that picture. However, it would always be that picture, including during the day. Daylight would probably work the same way, but it'd just look like a night sky all the time.
Edit: It's looks pretty cool anyway. Makes it look like something out of a science fiction movie during the day. Nice picture.
