The smp spawn is full of crap and there's houses near it. The spawn should be claimed by a World of Minecraft admin and the area near it cleared.

I agree with sith, people shouldn't be building in spawn area... or around it... I might see about moving spawn ;)

I don't really think of that as a bad thing, it makes it look like more of a popular server, if you do move the server then please don't just make it a bit of sandstone and give it actual building to decorate it a bit because then there would be no need for houses near by. But I don't know why it is so bad because if the spawn was claimed and in the middle of nowhere then it would be hard for new players to find other people seen as the /goto command has now gone. Maybe you could add portals in which players could warp to an area in which they can build still. Otherwise people will be very spread out and I think that the server will have less of a community feel to it. That's just my opinion though.

I just mean that the spawn itself and like 100 blocks around it should be protected from the sky to the bedrock. I don't mean to make it 10k blocks till you can build just a natural area around the spawn so it looks nice.

I agree with mellcor, and also with sithrebel's second post. After seeing the spawn today I realise what you mean, the spawn is filled with advertisements, random signs and even pixelart that looks like a barcode. I don't really know what the answer is, all I know is I don't want a huge area that is wasted and empty in which nobody can destroy or build.

the pixel art is called a "qr code" u use a smartphone or whatever with a program that can decode it when u take a picture of it, and im pretty sure a staff made it

i just logged on for the first time in ages, it is pretty crowded, also, there is grief all over the town around the spawn
i agree with the idea to move the spawn and the idea to make a nice structure around it, if this happens, i would be happy to help make the building/structure

Maybe you should make two separate spawns. Example: miencraftguy234 types /spawn. Takes him to the regular spawn where building is allowed. Jack_in_a_block types /spawn2. It takes him to a little castle area where he would have to walk around 50 or 100 blocks away from it to build. dudeface types /changespawn 2. Once he dies he is taken to spawn two instead of spawn 1. I think you kinda get it.
But I haven't been on the SMP yet, not sure if its a good idea.

I agree with Loci, but I don't think Ultra's idea is too bad either. Also, like Jak I would be willing to help with the spawn. :)
