Ive been playing with my brother on a our local SMP server but weve encountered a problem with the spawn area. Randomly, one of us cannot build or destroy within a certain radius of the spawn point and wed like to know if anyone could help us figure the problem out? You might just say to walk away further a build somewhere else, which is what we do on normal servers, but we are trying to play the island survival and its quite impossible when one of us cannot build or destroy.

Obviously you don't want to do this if you ever play with random/untrustworthy people, but if you wanted to fix this when just you and your brother were playing, the best fix is to op yourselves. Just in case you don't know what this is, it lets you use commands such as teleport, give, etc. but it also gives you permission to break and create blocks near the spawn point.
You can do this by going to your server console (the window that appears when you run and open the server) and typing "op <player name>", without quotations and putting your brother's username / player name where <player name> is. You can also do this in game, for that all you do is add a / in front of the command.
Sorry if you already know how to do this, I merely like to be thorough lol.
