Something weird, Glitch or Intended Feature?

Hello all.
When creating my fortress, i found out something that gave my diamond hoe a finer purpose (by accident, actually, didn't mean to make it).
Soulsand. Sure they say that mining it with a sword is faster, but it kills it like mining stone with a wood pickaxe, with a stone sword and who wants to spend So Much Iron on making swords just for soulsand removal (maybe cause it's in the way of your house in the nether)!
(No Offense meant in the following sentence) I Say, screw the sword. i made a stone hoe to test this, and i mined 47 blocks of soulsand.
It was completely unscratched, the health bar never showed up. I would say that it is also as fast if not faster than using a sword.
Just wanted to post this for those who don't know. And i don't know if this goes here.
And sorry for taking so long to get to the point ^w^

Oh and by the way, this works with pretty much anything, but is a little bit faster than using your hand, and just as fast as using a sword to cut soul sand, so.... yeah i think the preffered tool for soul sand is a hoe. ^_^
