I turn the sound on, hear nothing. This is not only in the World of Minecraft client. It happens in the normal Minecraft as well. Does anyone else have this problem?

This could be unrelated to Minecraft. Try listening to audio in another application and see if that's messed up to. If so, check your internal speakers/headphones/external speakers and see what's causing it. Check out this site on Microsoft if the issue continues.
