Suddenly I now need to hold down control and W to walk or control and E for inventory. Does anyone know what is going on?

Unpredicatable keyboard behavior solved
Seems Windows "Sticky-Keys" was part of the problem. This is solved by hitting escape key, going into options, then controls, using the arrow keys to get to "sneak" and pressing the caps lock key, then done, done and back to the game.
The other part of the problems was Comcast's "Constant-Guard TM" which monitors key presses on-line and off-line. Once that was un-installed leaving Norton Anti-Virus on the system, MineCraft returned to normal. No longer need to press "cntrl-W" to walk or "cntrl-E" for inventory etc. No keys that stay on without pressing and no dead keys as well.
I also changed keyboards (replaced dell keyboard with and acer keyboard and put on the latest Microsoft standard keyboard driver I could find (2004 for Windows XP), left the keyboard unplugged for 24hrs, and pressed control-alt-delete three times. However, I think removing Constant Guard TM from Comcast and changing the "sneak" key is what did the trick.
Will do more testing to be sure it is fixed but I believe that is the fix.
