Unable to connect please help

Whenever i try to connect to a classic multiplayer server it says "Failed to connect. You failed to connect to the server. It's probably down!"
This happens whenever i try to connect through minecraft.net or World of Minecraft client.
you help will be appriciated :)

Umm idk i have never had this happen only when my internet goes down that's the only time for me
