it wont allow me to log in with my username so when i use my email and try to connect to a server it says invalid character name or something :/ any help?

0_o it was letting me sign in with my email and I just changed my email to my user name in the server URL. It worked but im getting the same problem now :/ Thanks for the advice, i'll give it a shot.

This problem has been caused by people merging their minecraft account with their mojang account. When you do the merge, it will only let you sign in with your email. This of course has created a problem where people can't get into most servers because it says illegal name. The only server I can play on right now is World of Minecraft, and that's because I do direct connect, so until mojang gets of their arses and does something about it, then were screwed...

When you login to the World of Minecraft client with your email, whatever server you click, look at the bottom where there is an URL, change where your email is with your minecraft name.

Just a little note: You cannot login to the World of Minecraft client with your email.
Just re-type your credentials and see if it works. I'm not exactly sure what causes this problem. In my opinion, the most probable cause is MC.net being down, but that doesn't happen very often, so it might just be an identification error.
Also, try typing out your Username with the proper amount of capitals (If you have any). I'm not certain, but the fields may be case-sensitive.
EDIT: Apparently you CAN login to the Client with your email.
