I'm a student at the University of Southern California and have been playing Minecraft for a class (well, I played it before, but we're doing a huge project on it now for my interactive media class). Anyways, the last portion of the assignment is an ethnography study, and I would really appreciate it if some of you would answer a few questions for me?? Easy stuff, I promise.

How much do you play?
I play whenever I have free time from university. Maybe a few hours per day unless I am really busy.
What motivates you to play?
The fact that I know my limitations in that world, I find it a lot easier to be creative there than in real life.
What attracted you to this game?
I am studying engineering and my older brother showed me the game saying I should have a look at it to see how similar it was to what I was doing, that was 2 years ago and I have been hooked on it since then.
Do you know other players?
I know people from online, but I do not play with anyone I know in real life.
Have you made new friends in game, or do you play mostly with people they already know?
I only play with friends I have met from the game.
What do you do with your time in the game?
I normally have a whole load of different projects going at the same time so I can swap around if I ever get bored of one. I focus a lot more on the building side of it than the survival aspect. I thought the survival was really good at the start, but it gets repetative.

How much do you play?
I play in most of my spare time. So I play, or associate with the game, about once a day.
What motivates you to play?
The fact that no matter what the last thing I built was, there's always potential to createsomething greater. In other words, it's the limitless-creativity-sand-box side of minecraft that's hooked me.
What attrancted you to this game?
Well, it all started with seeing a fan-made trailer over my brothers shoulder when he was on Facebook. I looked into it, and instantly loved it.

You mean online or in real life? Cause I know many people in both 'worlds'. Though I know the ones from real life better.

Assuming you mean "with people you already know?"
Yes. I have made new friends, only a couple I've met in real life, and I also play with people I already know.

Build. Didn't I say I was hooked by the limitless-creativity-sand-box aspect of the game.
Occasionaly I will just go on to socialise with others.

Yes, lots of friends. Most of the people I know have abandoned Minecraft for other mainstream games like Call of Duty, Halo and Assassin's Creed

Build. I have a high degree of proficiency in Minecraft already, but there is always room to grow.

1: When I feel like it (maybe an hour or so at max every couple days because I use classic instead of premium. I mostly go on the forums like this though.)

How much do you play?
I used to play whenever I had the free time, but now I've migrated to other games, checking back every once and a while.
What motivates you to play?
It was mostly being able to shape my own world out of whatever I wanted. Later, it became about how good it felt to reach an accomplishment. e.g. getting diamonds, making a custom terrain, big building, ect.
What attracted you to this game?
It was mostly all the hype about Minecraft. I got attracted into World of Minecraft: Realms and then when I had the money, I bought Minecraft.
Do you know other players?
Yes. Both being met online and offline. Most of my family plays this game and I've met a lot of SMP players via Realms.

In SMP, it was building houses and... well, building houses after I got 40 diamonds. :) Now, in SP, I am currently working on a map.
