Water and unbreakable reskin possibility?

I have found using 7Zip, that the unbreakable and water textures are stored in the minecraft.jar file. If my theory is right, you should be able to edit these (not sure exactly how, possibly through unpacking and repacking when done). Does anyone know if it is possible or not?
I have also found a folder with the mob skins in it, for edit and personal use.

The unbreakable texture is easily edited using an image editor such as Photoshop. The water texture is, in fact, not using that texture and is instead coded. All of this is very old information.
