As you probably know, Minecraft is full of people who enjoy deleting people's hard work and nothing more. For this community, I think we need a strict, quick way to get rid of the griefers on our servers.
If we already have a system for this, I apologize for this thread. But if not, we should establish some sort of system quickly. Because as this game gets more popular, the griefers are going to grow exponentially.
I think we should have some sort of submission page, where admins can submit the name of the griefer they just banned. Then, that name can match up with the screen name given on the site, so they will be timed out (or removed) from the site.
Big bad List of All Greifers.
Name/Ip matches = kicked out or stealth ban.
We do have a list of spectators that we share with "The Archives" server.

This list is there for any server that wants them, and World of Minecraft is a well trusted Minecraft community with strict rules regarding grief.
However, notice this list is updated every 5 minutes. That means there may be some spectators that appealed and were successful. That would require all servers to keep an eye on the last and update their own banned.txt or whatever they use to log griefers.
Although a universal list of griefers would be useful, if everyone and anyone was allowed to update it, we might get a few people adding innocent people on there to cause trouble. So personally, I think that every server should develop their own staff members, maybe share some tools to fight and identify grief, and fight off griefers one by one. However a list of permanently spectated members on this site would be useful for all servers to have. Permaspectation requires a good reason and is like it's name: unreversible.
Yeah. I am so sick of the World of Minecraft server chats being filled with guests whining about how they were demoted for something obviously griefing-related. It makes the whole server lame.
That's what the Moderators are for. We actually have to listen to these guys!
Although some are quite nice and admit they made an honest mistake. Those people make me feel more confident in human character.
Ok, first the site and in-game are already in-sync. Thats how the spectators list is updated, as soon as someone is spectated in-game they're name is automatically added to the list (within 5 minutes that is). The reason we don't ban users who are spectated from the site isn't because we haven't thought of the idea, it's just that it's a bad one and we have no reason to. Staff make mistakes and spectators have every right to come in and defend themselves or make an appeal i mean thats why we have the appeal system. If we wanted spectators to be banned we wouldn't have the spectator rank... we would just ban them.
Also i'm not sure i understand how banning a spectator from our site will stop them from griefing, if there a spectator they have already griefed and there building privileges have been removed so banning them to prevent what has already happened doesn't quite make sense to me.
Using a client detector system detecting a client with a building designated area if attempted grief on that object using a small type of compact detection AI could locate objects in careful synchronization with the grieving client then the AI simply detects the grief and sends a information notice of location with in the game using X Y Z calculation sends you how many blocks of owned client land is deleted. then gives you a simple question. Do you want to teleport to this client?
Also this is dependent on how fast the client deletes the owned building. Now. the AI has detected the grief then takes action to make a backup before 6 blocks are deleted.
like a type of data cache
Someone should make a server with stuff already built in it,and call it griefer welcome, like a griefer server. Then those who grief alot should be given a warning that if they grief in another place they will be banned. and out there name on a list for easy referance as to whether they got the notice.
Greifers need to get a life.
