I agree, I've been thinking of something like that. The one issue with Minecraft is that your are completely alone. Sure, you have huge fortress all your own, but what about a whole army all your own? An army customly outfitted by you.
Your idea could change Minecraft greatly, and for the good.

id love to see a few more mobs and more items aswell maybe one better than diamond?

i think there should be some sort of thing that combines red stone and wood to make a flying machine, if anyone here has played WoW then you would kind of know what i mean.

i think there should be TnT sticks that you can only get from skellys on hard. (on easy there is what we have on esay, on normal we have tougher mobs and creepers blow up more space, on hard there are rare zombies that can brake some blocks, creepers like on norm but spawn more offten, and ahh skellys *smirks* there will be a uncommon skellys that will drop TnT arrows ((arrows made from TnT sticks insted of sticks that blow up a small space, like 1/8 TnT block blast.)) and TnT sticks. you could also make TnT sticks as in a collum of sulfer and the outer collums paper. they would be able to be thrown like snowballs and eggs but are heavier than them((dont go as farr or high))

Something I've been thinking about for a bit is having a queuing option, between the hot bar and the inventory, so when you run out of/out-use an item it automatically switches to another that you've selected. I'm not sure how possible this is at this stage, but I like the idea.
