I cannot currently download any mods. I have followed the corret steps (delete META.inf, open in WinRar, etc.). I also do not have the little button on my minecraft homescreen that says "Mods" next to "texture packs". I noticed that AntVenom had it and I think that is why I cannot use any mods right now. If anyone has any suggestions as to why I do not have this option or as to why my mods wont work please reply ASAP! thanks.
Note: I also do not know how to download challenge maps either, so some help with that would be nice.
I have tried downloading: MyBiomes, ICBM, Camping Mod, and i think that's it.

You need something like winrar or 7zip to unzip the map file.
For what you need to use, I would download everything from minecraft forum as they always say what you need and how to install, when I was a complete beginner, they always made it very easy.
With the map, I just did it myself to test, you need to download it, then open with winrar/7zip and take just the folder that you see, no extra files, and stick that in your saves folder.

Forge is a modloader that is required to install mods such as paintball, and other mods. You may need to install other mods to install certain mods. Sometimes it is easy, sometimes it's not. Some mods dont need modloader, or forge and some do. To install mods with forge, you may need to put some files in minecraft.jar and/or into the "mods" folder, which is normally used to install mods, and sometimes the same with modloader. The mods folder is created when you install forge. Look for directions on how to install certain mods.

If you want to make install mods easier, I would suggest downloading magiclauncher as it installs the mod for you so you don't have to be playing with the files.

About the maps, you just need to download the map from wherever it is, and then go into your .minecraft folder, then saves and put the whole folder that you downloaded in there.
If that doesn't work, or doesn't make sense, ask again and i'll try to go into more detail.
