World of Minecraft Client Chat: chat resolution/transparency?

I have found it difficult to read the chat at some points, having to shift my camera onto darker blocks to read text. I operate my screen at 1680 x 1050, so I find it odd that the text is so blocky, while the icons on the toolbar look cleaner.

Is there any way to clean up the text to give it a higher resolution, or perhaps make it smaller with a transparent black background? Thanks!

No one? Doesn't anyone have a way to add a transparent background to the text when T is pressed? I thought someone in this community might know...

You can't make transparent

You can't make transparent stuff in minecraft. It's either completely see thru, like glass, or as solod as a rock. Same goes for text.

@Fisheatsbear: I have

I have Minecraft Alpha Client (yes, I purchased Minecraft) and the chat there has a transparent background (looks to be black at about 40-50% transparency). It allows the text to be more easily read, whereas the World of Minecraft Client does not. Perhaps it should be added to the World of Minecraft client.

Its possible, use Game Maker 8

Ok, how to make your texture transparent?
1. use Game maker 8
2. Open the terrain as a sprite
3. Double-click the sprite
4. at Image Editor Set "Opacity" to 0 and click set the Color Mode to Replace.
5. draw till it looks transparent.
6. (Dont close Image Editor!) Now click Save(or Ctrl+S)
7. Save it in the skin folder as terrain
8. click the run.bat
9. Enjoy your transparent texture! (Warning! lava, water and adminium cant be set transparent!)
It worked fine for me.
(Warning: Only works when the opacity is fully set to 0.)

Chat UI

As far as I'm aware, Classic Creative doesn't support much, if anything, in the way of customizing the chat interface. Alpha's chat with the alpha-channeled background is... Alpha's chat. That improvement came long after Classic Creative was frozen (note Creative v0.30 versus Alpha v1.1.12 ish).

As for transparency in textures, Classic Creative does not support semi-transparency - a pixel is either 0% or 100% transparent, no middle ground. And even then (with the exception of the hat area), the player character skin does not support transparency at all.

So, to answer your original question, no there doesn't appear to be any way to add a semi-transparent background to the Classic Creative chat. I play windowed so it's not horrendously blocky text, and the darker blocks thing is pretty much the only workaround we have apart from going and playing Alpha.
