World of Minecraft client not finding minecraft.dat file

the run.bat does not seem to find the minecraft.dat file
the minecraft file is in
c:\program files\java\jre6\lib
and it still says

Warning: lib\minecraft.jar not found.
Did you read instructions / download it?

ERROR: Failed to run minecraft

Guys, it's because Minecraft is down. Some kind of server error, or another. I can't say much more, but does anyone have an estimate of when the servers/site will be back up?
