World of Minecraft Client Problems

1) When I enter in my information, it takes forever to load.
- It'll either say, "Server list cannot be retrieved. Going single-player."
- Or, It'll just not open anything at all.
I enter in my information correctly, this i know. I tried taking it off "remember information,"
and entering my information manually, but it changed nothing. I tried closing every
other program, and nothing happened. I also even tried redownloading the minecraft.jar file, but that didn't change anything either.
Please help.
