World of Minecraft Client shows a server is Online but cannot connect.

The title says it all. -- Anyone know why this it happening? It will show the "connecting' screen but then it says the server is down (Though I can clearly see there are players in it). Is this normal?
Im a beta minecrafter, and I haven't been to classic in a long time. I felt like I should visit what got me started.

Just because it is showing players, it doesn't mean it is up. If you had taken the time to read around, you would have read that minecraft.net has been having continuous problems.
It usually helps by giving more information. Such as:
Game client version?
OS (Operating system)?
Java?
Did you try connecting to another server?
