It seems like they keep on updating minecraft before u can update server do the 1.2.whatever updates affect the programing required because smp hasnt been updated in about a month since 1.2 came out...im starting to wonder if itll ever come up to date :(

That is downright a lie, I have said several times that it would take 2 weeks or a month plus to finish.
Some good news is that 1.2.5 users can connect to 1.2.4 servers which helps a lot.

When 1.2.3 came out, they would have started working on coding SMP. Then, when (I assume) they were nearly done, Jeb_ releases a minor update (1.2.4), which delays them even more (and I heard from Lunick that Triddin was not happy about that). Now, I assume they're working on updating to the not-yet-released 1.2.5, which they've let out stuff for early so people can code their mods in time for the update.
