World Conversion Glitch
I just discovered this problem when I updated my minecraft to 1.2.4
When I try to load an older world that needs to be converted, minecraft locks up after about a half-second. It starts out normally enough, with the 'converting world to anvil - this may take a while :)' screen with the loading bar. Then it dissapears and I'm left with the background graphics just sitting there. Eventually(time delay varies) the screen goes black, like right before the 'fatal error' screen. But it stays this way, and when I open my task manager with CNTR+ALT+DELETE it says minecraft is running normally.
I have a Lenovo laptop with Windows 7 installed. It is a 64 bit machine and I run minecraft on 64 bit Java. I haven't downloaded anything recently that could be interfering with Minecraft, and all my new worlds created since the update work fine. I'm really attached to this world, as I have several massive structures on it that took me many many hours of work and I would hate to lose them. Help?

i have converted all my worlds (including alpha ones) to 1.2.4 without hassle. I am unable to reproduce this bug although i am pretty sure im on a 64bit system. does it say anything in the error at all like it was caused by a mod or something? i am not a programmer of any ind right now but you could always google the error and possibly come up with something.
if you cant find a solution try using mc nostalgia to see if the worlds work in the older version and if they do play them in that version.
sorry about not being able to help much but i hope you work it out soon. :)
