If you get 40,000 views on one video in 2 years or less you'll be offered partnership, easier way to become number 1, and you get paid for it too!
Applications are reviewed for a variety of criteria, including but not limited to the size of your audience, country of residence, quality of content. Meaning that nearly all ninety five percent of partnership applications are denied. They do not base it off of your views on a video solely. Plus ninety nine percent of their partners create the content, they will not accept a partnership application for an account that creates videos of a game, guaranteed.
I got an offer from youtube, I only assumed it was the amount of views as the selected video had got about 40,000 views in 2 years and several hundred comments. I haven't accepted the offer due to the fact that it is about video games and that it may violate copyright.
When going through the application, it has alot of warnings about copyright, but I'm sure Notch wouldn't have any issues with minecraft videos either.
Also you say alot of partnership apps get rejected that are about video games, then how would something like Machinma get partnership?
Machinma creates their own content. You didn't read what I said closely. I was saying that you will not get a partnership offer if you just record video games or the such. Machinima's content is all interviews they do with game developers and the such. Which is original, unlike what you are talking about like them only providing trailers and no original content. For a channel to be offered any type of partnership the person must be making original and creative content.
And if you really were offered a partnership offer and were afraid of copyright issues, YouTube doesn't care. It is all up to the original authors of the content to remove it. So in other words, I find it hard to beleive that you declined an offer like that. And content like you are saying is subject to certain limitations found in sections 107 through 118 of the copyright law, fair use. If the company of the game for the trailer, took down the video, you can dispute it. However, if you are trying to make money from the videos or such, that benefit goes away. So all in all, some gaming companies on youtube do get partnership offers, as long as they are non-profit and provide original and creative content.
PHAIL!
Yes I understand what you're saying now makes perfect sense.
Just one thing though, I haven't declined or accepted the offer yet.
